HRCM has concluded a training course on Monitoring Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
HRCM has concluded a training course on monitoring Economic Social and Cultural (ESC) rights which was targeted for relevant NGO’s and the staff of the commission. The training which was conducted from 3rd to 7th Jan, covered topics such as identifying and describing ESC rights violations, the work and methods of the UN Special Rapporteurs, human rights council, the committee on ESC rights, monitoring progressive realization, including with budget analysis and indicators and other relevant information about monitoring ESC rights. The training was facilitated by Ms. Claire Mahon and Mr. Christophe Golay from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights.

HRCM publicizes its report on S.Gan Temporary Jail
The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives has published its report on Seenu Gan Temporary Jail today. This report was sent to concerned authorities on 4 January 2010 following which several discussions have been held with these institutions regarding the recommendations in the report. In order to expedite implementation of HRCM’s recommendations, a time line has been proposed to the Department of Penitentiary and Rehabilitation Services based on concerns raised in the report.
HRCM requests the government to change the Fishermen’s Day
