Human Rights Poster Competition 2010
Introduction
“Human Rights Poster Competition 2010” is conducted by the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM). This event will be conducted in all Schools (Public and Private) around the country till the end of this month. The themes for this competition will focus on the UN “Convention on the Rights of the Child” to mark its 20th anniversary.
This is the third consecutive year HRCM is conducting such an art competition. In 2008 the competition was held to create awareness about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. And in 2009 the theme was “Prevention of Child abuse - My responsibility”.
Convention on the Rights of the Child
United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) on 20th November 1989. In a very short period of time, it has become the most widely accepted human rights treaty ever.
Maldives ratified this convetion consisting of 54 Articles on 11th February 1991. By ratifying the convention the government has an obligation to protect and uphold the rights of every child in the Maldives.
