Mariyam Azra Ahmed

Ms Maryam Azra Ahmed was appointed a Member of the Human Rights Commission on 27th November 2006. She had served the education sector for several years and holds a Masters Degree from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK.

Majida Majdy
Ms Majida Majdy read Law at the Russian Peoples Friendship University in Moscow from 1997 to 2002. After completing her Masters Degree specializing in Internatioal Law in 2004 at the same University, she returned to the Maldives and joined the Attorney General's Office (AGO) as a State Attorney.

Ahmed Saleem

Ahmed Saleem, born in 1949, has had a distinguished career in public service. He joined the Foreign Service in 1968 and served for over 25 years as a high-level diplomat, including tenures at the High Commission of the Maldives in Sri Lanka, the Maldives Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, and the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Mohamed Zahid

Mr. Zahid, born in 1962, is the only son of Mr. Ibrahim Zaki and Ramiza Ibrahim of H.A Hathifuhsi (one of the smallest and isolated islands of the country laying in the northern edge of Maldives) is eldest in his family with two sisters.

Ahmed Abdul Kareem

Mr. Ahmed Abdul Kareem was appointed as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives on 27th November 2006. He holds a Masters Degree in Curriculum from University of Mohamed V, Rabat, Morocco.

Member Profile
The Commission consists of five members. On Monday, 27th November, 2006, the President appointed new members to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives. The members appointed were Mr. Ahmed Saleem, Mr. Mohamed Zahid, Ms Maryam Azra Ahmed, Mr. Ahmed Abdul Kareem and Ms Majida Majdy. Mr. Ahmed Saleem was appointed as the President and Mr. Mohamed Zahid as Vice President of the Commission. The appointment of the members, the President and the Vice President were undertaken after consultation with the People's Majlis as stipulated in the Human Rights Commission Act.
