Strategic Plan 2007 - 2009
The original strategic plan developed by the Commission in 2005 has been refined and expanded. It now represents the new Commission’s roadmap for the next three years 2007-2009, as we pursue our mandate.
Many of the strategies we have identified have little hope of success without close cooperation and partnerships with our many stakeholders, official and non-governmental, national and international. For our part we commit ourselves to working together in an open, participatory and accountable partnership in pursuit of our vision.
In pursuit of our mandate, we have developed five long-term goals. Long-term goals are difficult to measure, though people tend to know when they are been reached.
LONG-TERM GOAL 1. A human rights culture throughout the Maldives where everybody’s human rights are respected, upheld and exercised freely and responsibly - a democratic society where freedom of speech and freedom of the press prevail.
LONG-TERM GOAL 2. An end to human rights abuses by the authorities and effective remedies where violations occur. Ensure human rights compliance in the private sector.
LONG-TERM GOAL 3. More equitable sharing of the benefits of economic progress.
LONG-TERM GOAL 4. Human rights capacity enhanced among human rights non-governmental organizations and other civil society organizations.
LONG-TERM GOAL 5. An effective and efficient Human Rights Commission that is independent, professional, accessible, transparent, consultative and accountable.
