HRCM expresses grave concern regarding civil servants salaries not being restored

Human Rights Commission of the Maldives had given a media statement expressing grave concern regarding civil servants salaries not being restored after the three months period.
In this media statement the Secretary General of the Commission, Mr. Ahmed Shahid stated that it is vital for the government to restore the salaries of the civil servants for the protection of workers right and especially the rights of civil servants and their families and the prolongation of this issue may result in violations of rights of the civil servants.
Further the Commission urges the government to restore the salaries of all sectors as the salaries of the staff of independent Commissions were restored in January. The Commission also calls upon the government to respect the rights of the civil servants by restoring their full salaries and called upon civil servants to make use of their right to strike in a way which does not disrupt provision of services to the general public. In addition the Commission calls upon the relevant authorities to make a collaborative effort to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
