HRCM begins its media training workshop

The Human Rights Commission of Maldives in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Forum for National Human Rights Institutions commenced its media training workshop today.

 

The opening ceremony was attended by the Chief guest for the function Mr. Mohamed Waheed, Special Advisor to the National Center for Linguistic and historical Research, the president of the commission Ahmed Saleem and other commission members, facilitators of the workshop Dr. Judy McGregor, EEO Commissioner with the New Zealand Human Rights Commission and Mr. James IIiffe, Public Affairs consultant to the Asia Pacific Forum and the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, media representatives, NGOs members and staff of the commission.

 

In his address to the gathering the chief guest emphasised the importance of creating awareness to the media and general public about the role of HRCM and the need to focus our work on areas in the new constitution of the Maldives that concern human rights. He also urged to present materials on human rights in ways that would encourage public interest and concern.

 

The opening ceremony was held at the HRCM training room, M. Uthuru Vehi, 5th Floor.
