HRCM Facilitates Training in Eydhafushi to Assist The Establishment of a Child Protection Group

The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives has facilitated a training conducted by local NGO, Ensure in Baa atoll Eydhafushi. The objective of this training was to train a group of 17 participants on establishing a child protection group in Eydhafushi. The purpose of establishing such a group is to work for the prevention of child abuse in the community.
HRCM facilitated two sessions on the Convention on the Rights of the child as well as the local Law on the Protection on the Rights of the Children. Maldives Police Services also facilitated some sessions of this training.
This is the second training facilitated by HRCM, following requests by local NGOs this year. Last week HRCM has begun work on establishing an NGO network across the country, in order to assist and support the capacity development of NGOs, provide encouragement for existing NGOs in carrying out their activities and for new NGOs to actively participate in programs aimed at protecting, sustaining and promoting human rights, create strong bridges between provincial NGOs by providing a platform for regular communication and discussion of related issues, encourage better coordination and the effective implementation of activities aimed at protecting, sustaining and promoting a high regard for human rights in the country.
