The HRCM congratulates the newly elected Members of the Peoples Majlis, and urges the Members to work together with Government for the benefit of the people and the country.
The HRCM affirms its trust in the new Majlis, and is confident that the new Members of Parliament will follow the ideals of democracy and the principles of Islam, and work for the welfare of the people and the interests of the country, in making important decisions and in approving new legislature, and thereby ensure the rights and freedoms set forth in the Constitution.
The HRCM believes the Majlis to be a fundamental pillar for maintaining peace and harmony, national sovereignty, the principles of Islam, and in achieving socio-economic development and progress. The HRCM sees the cooperation of all stakeholders, dialogue with political parties, a relationship of trust and respect with independent national commissions, acknowledgement and support for the work of NGOs, assistance and collaboration with the government, along with holding the government accountable, to be integral to this important responsibility of the Majlis.
At a time when democracy in the country is still in its infancy, it is all the more important to focus all our collective resources in a co-operative and collaborative manner to strengthen the basis of democracy in the country, and in addressing the many problems facing the country today. The foundations of democracy should be strengthened in line with the noble principles of Islam and acts that might inflame the passions and hatred should be avoided. We must instill in ourselves a culture of trust and respect.
The HRCM is fully confident that the esteemed Majlis will in an inclusive and co-operative manner work to the letter and spirit of Article 75 of the Constitution, and thus pay due regard to national interest and the welfare of all people in passing laws and in deliberating matters of public interest.
