HRCM Signs a Capacity Development Project with UNDP

The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives today signed the “HRCM Capacity Development Project” with UNDP at a ceremony held at the UN Building, Male’.

The project aims at supporting HRCM’s substantive human rights programs and emphasizes on staff development and civil society engagement.

During the ceremony UNDP Resident Representative for the Maldives, Mr. Andrew Cox, emphasized the role of HRCM in contributing towards building a culture of human rights in the country, particularly during this early stage of democracy.

President of HRCM Mr. Ahmed Saleem highlighted the important role played by the commission during the last few years in strengthening a foundation of human rights and democracy in the country, and the vital contribution of the UN system in this area.
