HRCM conducts training session for Maafushi Prison officers

Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has conducted a human rights awareness session for Maafushi Prison officers yesterday.

The one day session was conducted as part of an ongoing three month “Entry Level Training Program” organized by the Department of Penitentiary and Rehabilitation.Yesterday’s session was attended by 37 officers among the participants of this Program which began in April.

The sessions were held on five key areas; general information on human rights, information about HRCM, Islam and human rights, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Human rights and Prison, and the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. HRCM has conducted similar sessions at Entry Level Training Programs for prison officers in the past.
