News | 21 June 2009

HRCM’s Human Rights Poster Competition which is being conducted in all schools of Maldives will begin today. This event which is conducted as a part of Commission’s mandate to educate and raise awareness about human rights related issues, is open to all students nation wide belonging to the age groups 11-13, 14-16 and 17-19. HRCM has dedicated this year’s Poster Competition to educate and create awareness about ways of preventing child abuse, as the increased number of cases of child abuse in Maldives is Commission’s one of the most apprehensive tribulations.
The winners will be announced on 19th November 2009 at the function held to mark the World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse. Prizes will be awarded to the best three paintings under each age group and a special honorary award will be given to the school(s) with the maximum participation as well as distinction based on the winners. Selected entries from the Poster Competition will be used on HRCM posters, leaflets, reports and Newsletter.
Last year an Art Competition was held nation wide, which was aimed at educating and raising awareness on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), as a part of the numerous activities conducted to mark the 60th anniversary of UDHR. Winners of the competition were announced at the special function held to mark the Human Rights Day 2008 in Addu Atoll Hithadoo.
